DPG Assignment - self portrait in progress

I set up my new easel, put on a random selection of music from my new Zune, and got crackin' to meet the Pacific-Time deadline of 7pm for the Deadline Painting Group.

Our theme this month was Self Portrait. Maybe you can understand why I procrastinated -- it's not easy painting yourself. Although, you look at yourself every day in the mirror, and on top of it, I even paint myself with make-up practically every day -- so you'd think it would be easy; but it's not.

I took my Green Hat pic and tried to work it onto the canvas. You can still see the pencil sketch in the hat and clothing, while I've already started filling in the detail of the face.

I wish I could be more creative and spontaneous produce wonderful paintings and drawings like my friend Alfredo Muccino. He is exceptionally talented and can make a simple pen and ink sketch look like a million dollars (somebody recently commissioned a piece from him, so he's a pro). Maybe with practice, I'll be more prolific with my creativity. But meanwhile, I'm very happy with the support of my DPG partner, Vic Keegan, and my muse in Ross, Dominic.

I'll post this painting again when it's done so you can see the finished product.

Sorry Vic, for not putting this up earlier! But I thought I could invoke some creative license on the time zone of the deadline this time ;-)
