Long Valentine's weekend

Pure bliss. We've just driven through verdant hills dotted with old ancient naked oak trees covered in lichen and moss. The landscape then opened to acres of dormant vines, with a golden radiant carpet of yellow rapeseed blossoming and small dots of tiny orange flowers below.

Gray and blustery outside, we rushed to our room in Sonoma and lit the wood fire. Upon arrival, we had a bottle of champagne on ice awaiting and deep dark chocolate truffles. Given its the Olive Festival weekend, when we ordered the fruit and cheese plate, it came with local artisan cheeses, a dish of earthy Sonoma olive oil, fresh crusty bread, walnuts, fig preserves and a dish of assorted briney olives.
