Whale watching today - saw gray whales, humpback whales, a sea otter, sea lions, and bald eagles

Our first encounter with marine life was a pair of gray whales feeding in a shallow inlet.  We got quite close, which was amazing.  We then ventured out into open seas where our guide spotted a lone sea otter floating in the swells.  It was hard to take a photo of him as the boat bobbed up and down (and I got a bit dizzy).  Then we were off to a rocky outing where sea lions were sunning themselves after feeding on salmon.  As we continued on, we saw the distinctive spout of steam blowing up into the air and found ourselves in the middle of two pairs of mother whales and calves.  They came up often, sometimes even bringing a huge flipper out of the water.  We also saw a bald eagle’s nest and the eagles themselves.  All in all, a great day on of nature in a beautiful setting.

  1. I love that pic of the sea lions. They look like humans lounging on the sofa after a giant meat meal.
