The Gap's art gallery

This month's theme for Deadline Painting Group is "An Inspiration." A couple of weeks ago, I met a girlfriend at her place of employment - The Gap - to have lunch. First, she invited me to take a walk through The Gap's private art gallery and it was INCREDIBLE! One of my absolute favorite artists is Chuck Close (see his painting here). The gallery had three of his cubist-style paintings and three black-and-white paintings -- all of which were stunning! His genius and creativity are just astounding to me. I could have sat in front of the paintings for hours, appreciating the colors he used, how he could see the rainbow of hues in skin tones, how he could dissect an image and reconstruct it so it looked one way when close-up, and almost like a photo when you stood away (I should mention, these paintings were about 10 feet tall - impressive). Two of the b&w paintings were simply done with his fingerprints. He dabbed his finger into an ink pad, and pushed it against the paper. From a distance, it looked like a photo. Then as you got closer, you saw a bunch of dots. Closer still - those dots became fingerprints. Wow.

Aside from Chuck Close, there were Warhols, Lichtensteins (I'm not a big fan of either), Gerhard Richter (I like him more now that I've seen the pieces in the gallery), and more.
I'm still thinking of what I'll paint this month based on our theme. But in the meantime, we painted our living room and moved the "Lips" painting upstairs, which looks pretty cool. So I'm inspired to keep working, as that was one of those creations which made me feel happy.
